Justin Timberlake's Net Worth is NSYNC with the Wealthiest

Updated in February, 2024.

Justin Timberlake has it all going on. He went from a cute boy band member to a hot sexy grown man with a hilarious sense of humour. He took the SNL’s D*ck in a Box sketch and performed it live at Madison Square Garden.

But seriously now, Justin Timberlake’s net worth is estimated to be $250 million. Rich, handsome, funny, but most importantly, he is a very nice person.

A Tale Of Two Justins

Timberlake transitioned from a pop boy singer to a mature man very nicely without as many problems with drugs and police as the other Justin, Justin Bieber. It is not that fair to compare people, but you get the idea of the two different paths taken by these men as they grew up under the spotlight of being world-famous. Timberlake had support from some of the other members of NSYNC, even though one of them, Lance Bass, disliked him, whereas Bieber had to do it alone. That could have been the difference.

In my humble opinion, they have come to a similar place as their music styles matured. I am happy they still make great music as adult men. It is not easy to navigate from being a teen pop star to being taken seriously as a grown adult man who is a talented musician. Many others have miserably failed while attempting the transition.

The Timberlake Aquarian

Timberlake was born in Memphis, Tennessee, on January 31, 1981. This date means he is an Aquarian. I am also an Aquarian, so he is one of my spiritual brothers. My birthdate is Jan 29, and I have over 200 friends with birthdates in the range from January 20 to Feb 18, which makes them all Aquarians.

Other super famous Aquarians include Oprah Winfrey (who was also born on Jan. 29), Shakira, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ed Helms, Alicia Keys, Ashton Kutcher, Jennifer Aniston, Chris Rock, Ellen DeGeneres, The Weeknd, Elijah Wood, Michael Jordan, Harry Styles, and many more. Do you see the pattern? We are wildly independent, genuinely care about others, and can be a real “biatch” if we don’t get our way.

Wearing Mouse Ears

Little Justin got his singing chops in the church because his father was the choir director for a Baptist church. His grandpappy was also a musician. Timberlake started performing in public at the age of 11. He also went on the television talent show called Star Search to perform a country song using his earlier stage name of Justin Randall.

In 1993 and 1994, he appeared in the All-New Mickey Mouse Club. This television show is where he met Britney Spears, who was also on the show and became his girlfriend. Another example of a celebrity who did not do so well with fame and fortune is poor Britney. However, her time with Justin was short and sweet. They broke up abruptly after about two years.

The Mouse Club was like an incubator for future mega-stars. Other castmates included Christina Aguilera, actor Ryan Gosling, and a future member of NSYNC named JC Chasez. Timberlake is responsible for recruiting Chasez into a new boy band formed by manager Lou Pearlman. The boy band became known as NSYNC.

The Rise Of NSYNC

  • NSYNC started in 1995, and their first tour was in Europe in 1996.

  • The first NSYNC album, self-titled NSYNC, was released in 1998 and sold 11 million albums.

  • The second album, No Strings Attached, released in 2000, sold 2.5 million copies in the first week of release.

  • The group had top-five hits with the songs Bye Bye ByeGirlfriend, and This I Promise You.

In total, the band sold more than 70 million albums from 1998 to 2002.

Timberlake made some money with NSYNC, but most went to manager Pearlman, who later sued for his financial management of the NSYNC boys’ earnings.

Going Solo

Timberlake wrote a song called Gone that he offered in 2001 to Michael Jackson, who initially turned it down. NSYNC recorded it instead. Later, Jackson would offer to record the song as a duet with Timberlake. However, that project was not possible because the rights had already gone to NSYNC.

Nevertheless, it was Jackson’s encouragement of Timberlake that Timberlake credits for giving him the courage to go solo.

1. Timberlake’s solo debut was at the 2002 MTV Video Music Awards. He sang the song Like I Love You. His first solo album was Justified. It was R&B style. This style change turned off some fans, but the critics liked it. The album sold three million copies. Of course, this was much less than an NSYNC album would sell. It was the time for Timberlake to grow up, with or without teenybopper fans, or he could have been quickly forgotten.

2. Timberlake put his courage in the right place. He had top-five hits with the singles Cry Me a River and Rock Your Body. He recorded a song called I’m Lovin’ It. This song was used by McDonald’s for the major ad campaign of the same name. McDonald’s paid Timberlake $6 million.

3. Then Timberlake went on the Justified World Tour. Yeah, baby! The cash started really rolling in. Justin Timberlake’s net worth started going up fast, without the sticky greedy fingers of Pearlman getting a piece.

OMG! Wardrobe Malfunction During the Super Bowl

In February of 2004, the Super Bowl XXXVIII halftime show was spectacular. Over 140 million people viewed it.

Part of the dance routine was the intentional ripping off of Janet Jackson’s black leather jacket by Timberlake to reveal a red lace bra. The problem was that everything came off and then, Janet Jackson showed her naked breast to millions.

On camera, it looked like Timberlake had ripped off her costume on purpose with malintent. It was almost like a sexual assault filmed live on TV. The term “wardrobe malfunction” was invented to describe what actually happened.

Later in that same year, Timberlake went on the 2004 Grammy awards to apologize for what happened. Poor guy, it was not his fault at all.

Acting the Way Out of the Mess

Nobody blamed Timberlake for the wardrobe malfunction. The Super Bowl incident did not harm his career. The attention helped launch his next positive career move into being a film actor.

Timberlake put his recording career on pause and took time off to be in many films.

He was in Edison Force, Alpha Dog, Black Snake Moan, Southland Tales, and did a voiceover for Shrek the Third. Elton John tasked him to play young Elton in the music video for This Train Don’t Stop There Anymore.

The Collaboration Period

In 2055, he began recording again. Timberlake cemented his musical chops as a mature artist by performing songs with other big names, including the Black Eye Peas, will.i.am, Three 6 Mafia, and Snoop Dogg. He started a record label called JayTee Records.

Justin Timberlake’s net worth went up again when he released his second studio album called Future Sex/LoveSounds in 2006. The album launched at number one on Billboard’s Top 200 albums, selling 684,000 copies in the first week of release. It is a very adult-themed work and super sexy — no mouse-ears-influence for this one.

The single SexyBlack rocketed to number one on Billboard’s Hot 100. The song held the number one spot for seven weeks. The second single released, My Love also was number one on Billboard’s Hot 100. The third release of What Goes Around Comes Around charted at number one too. Timberlake sang SexyBlack and My Love at the 2006 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.

What Is In the Box?

On December 16 in the year of our lord 2006, Timberlake was the host of Saturday Night Live. Since it was right before Christmas, many were thinking about gift ideas. With a robust holiday spirit, Timberlake performed D*ck in a Box with Andy Samberg. Samberg wrote the comedic song.

This performance was an unforgettable moment on SNL. The video of the performance went viral on YouTube as the most viewed video. Rolling Stone gave it the number three spot on the list of 50 Greatest SNL skits of all time. The song won an Emmy.

There Is No Stopping Timberlake

More Grammys, more film roles, and more success followed. Normally, this time would also include major ego expansion of a celebrity and might lead to personal problems. Not so with Timberlake. In 2008, he recorded the song, Follow My Lead with a singer and YouTube star, Esmée Denters. The song was only available through Myspace (Facebook was not popular yet) to buy as a download. All the proceeds went to Shriners Hospitals for Children to help sick children. I told you Timberlake was nice.

In 2007, Justin met his wife, actress Jessica Biel. They married in 2012 and have two sons, Silas and Phineas. They are still married. They live in a 13,000 square foot mansion in Hollywood Hills that he bought in 2002 for $8.3 million.

Final Thoughts

Forbes reported that Timberlake earned $57.5 million in 2019 before the pandemic hit. He makes plenty of money and is very active in helping many charities. He seems to have it all and is enjoying his life with a beautiful wife and wonderful family while at the same time remembering to help others.
